Developer Diary: Forging the Living Chronicle

Welcome to the first Developer Diary of the Godsforge Chronicles.

If the Dispatch is our bulletin board and the Archives are our storytellers, then the Developer Diary is the forge itself — where raw ideas are hammered into shape. Here, we’ll share design notes, reflections, and the reasoning behind choices that make Khassid what it is.

Right now, much of our focus is on two major milestones:

  • The Khassid Resource Document (KRD) — in its final stages of review, preparing for playtest release.
  • Revelations from the Aelorian Archives — our upcoming podcast, which will give voice to the myths and histories shaping the setting.

But beyond those headlines, the work of the forge is quieter, more detailed. We’ve been:

  • Reworking species entries (like the Karnathi).
  • Refining the Clerical Domains so they read as narrative touchstones instead of just mechanics.
  • Expanding the timeline in ways that reflect the tension between gods, mortals, and memory.

The challenge — and the joy — of this process is balance: making sure the world feels mythic and mysterious without ever being inaccessible to players at the table. Every choice we make has to serve both the story and the game.

Future Developer Diary entries will go deeper into specific design topics — from how the Blood Pulse of Xantheris changes spellcasting, to how Exarchs function in play, to what it means for belief to shape divinity itself.

For now, consider this our first spark in the forge. The metal is heating, the hammer is raised, and the Chronicle is taking form.
