College of Echoes

Bards of Khassid Subclass

“Not all echoes fade. Some remember. Some retaliate.”
—Selai Varn, Archivist of Strings, Bard of the Third Vault

The College of Echoes teaches that every sound leaves an impression—some subtle, some seismic. On Khassid, where the past is as loud as the present, bards of this college attune themselves to the reverberations of memory, emotion, and lost time. They draw magic from the resonance of unspoken thoughts, forgotten names, and lingering sorrow, weaving their music with haunting precision.

While some bards seek applause, Echoes seek understanding. Their songs stir old wounds, conjure remembered strength, and even call back phantom versions of words just spoken or spells just cast. They perform not just for an audience, but for the ages.

Resonant Remembrance

3rd-Level College of Echoes Feature

Your bardic inspiration reverberates beyond the moment. When you grant Bardic Inspiration, the creature can roll the die twice and choose the better result. After the die is used, a spectral echo remains until the start of your next turn, granting advantage on one attack roll or ability check made by an ally within 10 feet of the original target.

Additionally, when you cast a spell that deals damage or restores hit points, you can cause the effect to resonate. The target takes an additional 1d6 damage (if hostile) or regains 1d6 hit points (if allied) at the start of its next turn. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum once), regaining all uses after a long rest. At 10th level, the extra die becomes 2d6.

Temporal Refrain

6th-Level College of Echoes Feature

You can pluck the strands of time to replay what has just occurred. As an action, you can replicate a 1st- or 2nd-level spell cast within the last round by a creature within 30 feet of you. The spell must not require concentration. You expend a spell slot of the appropriate level to replicate it. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Also, spells you cast with verbal components have double the normal range, provided they don’t deal damage and don’t have a range of Self.

Echoes of Eternity

14th-Level College of Echoes Feature

You release a wave of echoing force that lingers across time and space. As an action, you create a 30-foot-radius aura centered on yourself that lasts for 1 minute and produces the following effects:

  • You and your allies within the aura gain temporary hit points equal to your Bard level.
  • Enemies in the aura must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, they have disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until the end of their next turn. They can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success.
  • When you or an ally takes damage inside the aura, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by 1d6 + your Charisma modifier. Once per turn, when this reaction is used, you can create an echo at the location of the damaged creature. On your next turn, you can move the echo up to 10 feet to harass a creature. That creature must make a saving throw of your choice (Dexterity, Wisdom, or Constitution), taking 1d6 force damage on a failed save.

You can use this feature once per long rest.
