Dragonborn (DRAG-uhn-born)

Essence

The Dragonborn of Khassid are not distant echoes or diluted bloodlines — they are the living result of rare and awe-striking unions between mortal beings and dragons. Born of shapeshifted dragons and the mortal races, these children of fire, storm, and scale inherit more than magic — they embody the very breath of ancient power. Through the mystical interfertility granted by their progenitors’ magical nature, Dragonborn walk the world as flesh-and-blood testaments to draconic will. They are not summoned or shaped — they are born, and their existence is both miracle and consequence.

Appearance

Dragonborn are tall, imposing, and strikingly distinct from other humanoid species. Their scale-covered bodies range in hue from deep obsidian and sapphire to copper, brass, or even iridescent pearl — each color a subtle nod to their ancestral dragon type. Though wingless, their powerful forms and clawed hands hint at draconic might. Their eyes gleam with reptilian intelligence, and many speak with a naturally resonant voice. Horns, frills, or crests may line their heads and spines, though these features vary by bloodline and heritage.

Culture & Society

There is no singular homeland, culture, or unified history for the Dragonborn — for they are born not of empire or diaspora, but of individual unions between mortals and dragons. In most cases, the mortal parent raises the child, either by choice or because the draconic parent considers child-rearing beneath them — or too dangerous to attempt in their natural form. In rare instances, a dragon may guard their offspring fiercely, offering cryptic protection from afar or even leaving a portion of their hoard as inheritance before disappearing into legend.

As a result, Dragonborn grow up scattered across Khassid in mortal villages, city alleys, hidden monasteries, or nomadic clans — often as orphans, changelings, or half-honored children of myth. Some are raised as sacred heirs; others as burdens, reminders of power misused or passions misplaced. Their upbringing shapes them as much as their blood: a Dragonborn raised among the Barazûn might master the forge, while one raised by Felden farmers may grow up with callused hands and a quiet strength.

Despite their scattered roots, most Dragonborn feel a pull toward legacy — not because they are told to, but because something in their blood sings of vastness, ruin, and reverence. They are often driven to carve a place in the world that reflects their impossible origin. Some become oathbound knights, others wandering sages, feared mercenaries, or temple-bound guardians. In a world that rarely understands them, they become the stories that will explain themselves.

Names & Language

Dragonborn often take names rooted in ancient draconic sounds — harsh consonants, guttural syllables, or melodic chimes depending on their bloodline. Some bear the names of long-forgotten dragons or forge new names to mark their own legend.

Examples: Khaezir, Vurnathi, Sorynax, Mezhra, Daelthar, Axrien
Most speak Common and Draconic. The latter is often reserved for prayers, duels, or moments of deep ancestral significance.

Ancestral Lineages

The Dragonborn of Khassid are the rare offspring of mortal and dragon, born not of ancient dilution, but of direct union between two vastly different beings. Each bears the mark of their draconic parent — elemental essence, mythic breath, or arcane imprint — shaped not only by blood, but by the conditions of their conception and birth. Their lineages are forged in moments of intensity: a pact sealed in fire, a storm cloaking the mountains, a wyrm’s death cry echoing through unborn flesh. Some are born in sacred places, others in catastrophe — but all carry the undeniable imprint of dragonkind made flesh.

When creating a Dragonborn character, choose one of the following ancestral lineages to reflect the nature and origin of your draconic power.

Ashblood

Ashblood Dragonborn are born of dragons who breathe ruin — their very being infused with elemental volatility. Fire, lightning, storm, or poison surges within these children from the moment of birth, often accompanied by environmental upheaval or magical instability. Some are born during volcanic eruptions, others in the eye of a storm, and a few emerge untouched from infernos that would kill any other. The dragons who sire them may care little for legacy yet leave behind a living embodiment of destructive glory.

Common Origins: Often born of dragons that embody storm, ruin, or elemental wrath; sometimes shaped by being born in places of wild magic or natural disaster.

Oathforged

Oathforged Dragonborn are shaped by dragons who uphold order — metallic dragons, celestial allies, or ancient guardians who see their mortal offspring not as accidents, but as legacies of purpose. These Dragonborn often bear internal stillness and an instinctive sense of duty, forged in the crucible of divine law or personal vow. Some are raised in temple cloisters or by mortal families bound to old pacts. Others awaken to their purpose only later, when the fire of discipline burns from within.

Common Origins: Often born of dragons sworn to ancient pacts, protectors of sacred sites, or guardians of mortal bloodlines. Sometimes raised by mortals under draconic contract.

Wyrmscarred

Wyrmscarred Dragonborn are touched not by the clean inheritance of fire or storm, but by the strange and broken echoes of draconic power. They may be born during magical catastrophes, divine collisions, or near the death throes of their draconic parent. Some were shaped in wombs flooded with temporal energy, while others bear the marks of forgotten gods or dying realms. Their very breath remembers things that never were — and sometimes still are.

Common Origins: Often born amid divine collapse, time-warped ruins, magical fallout, or near the death of a dragon. Their scars are woven from memory, anomaly, and inevitability.
