🕯️ Excerpt from Foundations of the Conclave
“The cleric prays. The wizard commands. We prepare.”
“We do not cast spells. We do not drink from the divine cup. We set the table, with care, and ask only for what must be served. Magic is not our servant. It is our guest. And in Khassid, even the god of magic respects a host who knows how to pour only what is needed—and no more.”
— Harbinger Solanna of the Eclipsed Flame
The rites and rituals of the Gravehunter Conclave are solemn acts of power and purpose—sacred tools in the endless war against undeath. Unlike arcane spells or divine invocations, these are ceremonial traditions rooted in discipline, repetition, and sacred doctrine. They are not cast in haste; they areperformed with intent. Rites are swift but potent invocations, typically taking 30 minutes or less to perform. They are used to prepare for an impending hunt or confrontation—granting temporary protections, empowering weapons, or branding the undead with sacred marks. Rites are the Gravehunter’s final breath before battle, the moment where resolve becomes action. Rituals, by contrast, are deeper ceremonies—longer in duration, broader in effect, and often tied to purification, warding, or final judgment. These may last hours and are often performed at sites of corruption, on battlefields, or in sacred spaces to consecrate the land, sever necrotic bonds, or prevent the return of undeath entirely. They do not merely prepare the hunter—they sanctify the world itself.
These practices are not interchangeable with common magic. Each rite and ritual is a declaration: that the Gravehunter does not rely on divine whim, but on intention, memory, and unwavering will. The dead shall not linger—and this is how that promise is kept.
Xantheris’ Respect
“They are those who truly honor me. Priests go through my siblings, which is fine, I suppose—if roundabout. Wizards? Vampires in robes. Always trying to suck me dry. But the Gravehunters? They do it right. Rites. Rituals. They ask—but only for what they need, and not a dram more. Would that more mortals walked their path.”
— Xantheris, God of Magic
