Purifier

The Hunter of Light’s Reckoning

Gravehunter Subclass

Purifiers stand as Olia’s unyielding flame against the Shadowbound Undead, relentless in their crusade to annihilate creatures that twist lifeforce into corruption. No vampire’s dominance, no wight’s hunger, and no shadowmancer’s sorcery can withstand the holy fire of judgment. They do not merely fight—they unravel the very essence of darkness, breaking the bindings that tether these entities to the mortal realm.

Where others falter before the consuming presence of Nightwalkers or the insidious whispers of Devourers, Purifiers stride forth as living sanctification, burning away the stolen essence that fuels these abominations. They wield consecrated light as both weapon and shield, cutting through intangible specters, dissolving necrotic forms, and ensuring that no cursed soul escapes redemption—or destruction.

Their warfare is more than physical; it is a spiritual reckoning. They sanctify desecrated ground, turning a wraith’s domain into a beacon of holiness. They sever the weave of shadowmancy, rendering corrupt spells inert before they can spread further blight. When Purifiers descend upon the unholy, they do not allow retreat, negotiation, or reprieve—only absolute eradication.

For the Shadowbound Undead, a Purifier’s presence is not just a battle—it is the end of their unnatural existence. Against divine fire, there is no refuge.

Emberbrand Sword

Purifier Weapon

3rd-Level Purifier Feature

Upon choosing the Purifier subclass at 3rd level, you receive a weapon emblematic of your path. This finely crafted armament reflects your specialization and is designed for the hunt ahead. Though mundane at first, its latent power will awaken as you prove your worth.

Weapon (longsword), uncommon (requires attunement by a Gravehunter Purifier)

Forged in the radiant symbolism of Olia’s eternal flame, this longsword serves as a sacred tool for those who walk the path of the Purifier. Though the blade’s fire lies dormant, it exudes a quiet divine heat that unsettles the undead and heralds their inevitable reckoning.

While attuned to this weapon, you gain the following benefit:

  • Kindled Strike. Once per turn, when you hit an undead creature with this weapon, divine embers ignite within it. The target sheds dim light in a 5-foot radius until the start of your next turn. This light reveals invisible creatures and objects and negates any effects that would allow the target to hide in magical or nonmagical darkness.

This weapon is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Flare of Restoration

3rd-Level Purifier Feature

Your bond with Olia’s sacred light lets you channel a burst of radiant healing in moments of mortal peril.

When a creature within 10 feet of you drops to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to restore 1d8 hit points to that creature. Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before using it again.

This healing flares with divine brilliance. Undead creatures within 10 feet of you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier) or be blinded until the end of your next turn.

Blazing Rebuke

3rd-Level Purifier Feature

Your divine flame lashes out at those who dare strike you, burning with holy wrath.

When a creature hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to unleash a burst of radiant fire. The attacker must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier).

  • On a failed save, the creature takes 1d6 fire or radiant damage (your choice).
  • The damage increases to 2d6 at 10th level.
  • Undead that fail the saving throw also have disadvantage on the next ability check or saving throw they make before the end of your next turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once), and regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Awakening Ritual

Emberbrand Enhancement

6th-Level Purifier Feature

The Trial of Cleansing

At 6th level, you undertake the Trial of Cleansing, a sacred rite that tests your ability to wield the divine flame of Olia against the festering corruption of the Shadowbound. This trial is not merely a battle—it is a declaration of sanctity, proving that undeath cannot take root where Olia’s light endures.

You must enter a defiled sanctuary overtaken by shadow, now held by a Wight commander and its twisted thralls. To awaken the full power of your Emberbrand Sword (or chosen weapon), you must complete the following steps:

Ignite the Judgment Pyres.
You must locate and light three sacred pyres within the sanctuary, each tied to Olia’s presence. Once lit, these flames cannot be extinguished by natural or magical means, but they must be defended—each pyre anchors divine light into the corrupted ground, holding the darkness at bay.

Cleanse the Sanctuary.
You must confront waves of skeletal warriors and decayed thralls drawn to the divine fire. As the battle unfolds, the ambient corruption grows desperate and violent. Only by holding the ground and protecting the pyres can the area be reclaimed.

Execute the Wight.
Once the sanctuary is secured, the Wight commander reveals itself. You must isolate it and deliver Olia’s final judgment using your awakened weapon. If the killing blow is struck with the Emberbrand Sword, the wight is seared beyond resurrection, and its lingering hatred is dispersed utterly.

Cauterize the Battlefield.
With the Wight destroyed, you must strike each Judgment Pyre once more, channeling the flame through your weapon. This final act sanctifies the ground, burning away the last traces of undeath and completing the ritual.

Awakened Weapon

Upon completing the Trial of Cleansing, your weapon is permanently anointed with the fire of Olia.

  • Your awakened weapon counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks.
  • While wielding this weapon, you gain access to one Weapon Mastery property that it qualifies for. You are considered to have weapon mastery only with this weapon.
  • You may change the selected mastery property whenever you complete a long rest, reflecting your ongoing refinement of technique and intent.

Emberbrand, Awakened

Purifier Weapon

Weapon (longsword), rare (requires attunement by a Gravehunter Purifier)

Now fully awakened, this blade blazes with the searing radiance of Olia’s divine fire. Its mere presence scorches away shadow and corruption, marking its wielder as a scourge to the Shadowbound and a beacon against undeath.

Properties:

  • Searing Cleave. When you hit a creature with this weapon, radiant fire arcs from the strike. Choose a second creature within 5 feet of the original target; it takes radiant damage equal to half the weapon’s damage roll (rounded down). This secondary damage is radiant.
  • Eclipsing Flame. When you hit an undead creature:
    • If it is not Shadowbound, it takes an additional 1d4 fire damage.
    • If it is Shadowbound (such as a wight, wraith, shadow, or vampire), it instead takes an additional 1d8 radiant damage.
  • Light of the Dawn. While you are attuned to Emberfang:
    • You can see through magical darkness to a range of 60 feet.
    • You have resistance to necrotic damage caused by effects originating from Shadowbound Undead.
  • Purifying Brand. If you reduce a Shadowbound Undead to 0 hit points with Emberfang, its essence is fully cleansed. It cannot regenerate, rise again, or be returned to undeath by any means short of divine intervention.

This weapon is considered magical for the purpose of overcoming resistance and immunity to nonmagical attacks and damage.

Burning Retribution

6th-Level Purifier Feature

Your deepening bond with Olia’s divine flame grants you the ability to lash out with radiant fury when struck by the unclean.

When a creature hits you with a melee attack, you may use your reaction to force that creature to make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier). On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 radiant damage, or half as much on a successful save.

If the attacker is a vampire or vampire spawn, it makes the saving throw at disadvantage, and its regeneration is suppressed until the end of your next turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Solar Consecration

10th-Level Purifier Feature

Through unwavering devotion, you have learned to anchor Olia’s sanctified light into the world, purging darkness and sealing the veil against corruption.

As an action, you may consecrate the ground in a 20-foot radius centered on you, imbuing it with radiant power for 1 minute or until you lose concentration (as if concentrating on a spell). While this consecration is active:

  • Undead creatures within the area have disadvantage on saving throws against radiant damage.
  • Undead cannot teleport or travel extradimensionally while inside the consecrated area.
  • Necrotic damage dealt within the area is halved, regardless of the source.

You may use this feature once per long rest. At 18th level, you may use it twice per long rest.

Flame of Final Dawn

14th-Level Purifier Feature

At 14th level, you become a living conduit of Olia’s purifying fire, ensuring that undead corruption cannot endure in your presence.

As an action, you consecrate a 30-foot radius around you for 1 minute, suffusing the area with divine flames that do not harm the living but scour undeath itself, disrupting the unnatural forces that sustain your foes.

While within this consecrated area:

  • Undead creatures suffer disadvantage on all saving throws against radiant damage and cannot benefit from regeneration or necrotic healing.
  • Shadowbound undead suffer an additional 1d8 radiant damage whenever they take damage inside the consecrated area.
  • The effects move with you, ensuring that Olia’s radiance follows your path, leaving no refuge for the damned.

Olia’s fire does not flicker, does not wane—it endures, ensuring that no undead escapes judgment.
